"Did You Know?"
Can't Find Replacement Batteries for Your 09 Display? There's an Easy Solution.
For nearly 20 years, the FLOMEC® 09 display delivered reliable performance on thousands and thousands of G2, A1, and TM Series turbine meters. Many of those meters are still in service today, and it's not uncommon to find G2 meter bodies that have been accurately measuring flow for decades.
Recently, however, more customers have encountered a challenge when it's time to replace the batteries in their 09 display: the original 3-volt lithium batteries have become increasingly difficult to find.
Why Are the Batteries So Hard to Find?
The specialized 3-volt lithium batteries used in the 09 display were discontinued several years ago by the battery manufacturer. Recognizing this change early, FLOMEC purchased additional inventory to support customers during the transition to newer technology. Thanks to the batteries' 10+ years shelf life, we were able to continue supplying replacement batteries long after production ended.
Today, those batteries are largely unavailable. Any remaining inventory on the market is often expensive, limited in quantity, and many years old.
As a result, some customers assume they need to replace the entire meter.
Fortunately, that's usually not the case.
The Simple Alternative: Upgrade to a Q9 Display
If your turbine meter is equipped with a 09 display, the simplest long-term solution is to replace the display with a Q9.
The Q9 has been successfully used in the field for several years and has proven itself as a dependable replacement for the 09 display. It maintains the same straightforward, two-button operation users are familiar with while adding enhanced diagnostic capabilities and using two standard AAA alkaline batteries that are inexpensive and readily available virtually anywhere.
For facilities with multiple FLOMEC turbine meters, the transition is easy to manage. The two displays look very similar, but there is one quick way to tell them apart. On the Q9, the buttons are labeled Rate and Total, while the older 09 display uses Calibrate and Display.

No Need to Remove the Meter
Here's the best part: upgrading from a 09 display to a Q9 typically does not require removing the meter body from the line.
The Q9 display can be retrofitted directly onto turbine meter bodies that originally used the 09 display. In most applications, the upgrade is as simple as replacing the display, allowing you to continue using the existing meter body and internals.
This is especially valuable for G2 Series owners. The G2 was designed with field-replaceable internals, making it possible to keep a meter in service for decades. It's not unusual to encounter G2 meters that are 40 years old or more and still operating successfully. As components wear over time, users simply replace the internals or display as needed. With durable aluminum and stainless-steel meter bodies often lasting for decades, there is little reason to replace a perfectly good meter simply because replacement batteries for the display are no longer available.
The Bottom Line
If you're having trouble finding replacement batteries for your 09 display, don't waste time searching for expensive, aging battery inventory. Upgrading to a Q9 display provides a simple, proven solution that uses readily available AAA alkaline batteries.
And because the Q9 can be retrofitted to existing 09-equipped turbine meters, the upgrade can often be completed without removing the meter from service, simply replace the display and get back to work.
